Jolee's Story

Way out in the northern part of Bangladesh close to the Indian border lived a family with five sisters. Shantona was one of the sisters and life was good until her father died. Then it was work, work, work! Her mother had to work outside the home to take care of all the girls. When Shantona was eight her mother found a job for Shantona as a housemaid and that became her way of life. It really was hard to work from sunup to sundown, but she had no other choice. A few years later, Shantona changed homes and started working for a Muslim family. Two years later Shantona became pregnant by the man of the house. When he found out she was pregnant he gave her some money and told her to go a long way away. He reminded her that if she ever told anyone about him, he would kill her. She got on a bus to the south and came to the Southern Bangladesh Mission. She found kind people there who took her in and cared for her until her daughter, Jolee, was born. She heard about Bangla Hope and asked if we would take her baby while she stayed to be a housemaid for the kind people at the mission. Jolee is now at our center and doing well. We are sure that you will enjoy sponsoring Jolee and making it possible for her to have a better life! Beverly Waid, Director Bangla Hope Orphanage 2018 Update: Jolee is now in 3rd grade and enjoys playing with her friends and her dolly.
